Art Deco Ceramics
Art Deco Ceramics in Britain Friday-Sunday 25-27 July 2008 This course will be held at The Wedgwood Memorial College a few miles outside of Stoke-on-Trent and close to the Wedgwood factory Tutors: Andrew Casey is an author, lecturer and artist. He has written several books including Art Deco Ceramics in Britain (2007) and Twentieth Century Ceramic Designers in Britain (2001) published by the Antique Collectors Club. He has organised several exhibitions including Susie Cooper Productions exhibition for Ipswich Museums and Galleries in 1989. Sharon Gater was born in the Potteries into a family involved in all aspects of the manufacture of ceramics and has worked at the Wedgwood Museum since 1978. Currently involved with the planning of the new Wedgwood Museum due to open in Spring 2008. Miranda Goodby is the Collection Officer – Ceramics at The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. The Course: Programme Friday 5-6pm Arrival and registration 6.30pm Dinner 7.45pm A Flash of Brilliance: Art Deco Ceramics by Andrew Casey Saturday 8.30am Breakfast 9.30am The Established Factories: and how they responded to art deco by Andrew Casey 11am Morning coffee 11.30am Visit to the Wedgwood Museum by minibus. 1pm Lunch at Wedgwood Visitor Centre (at students' own expense) 2pm Wedgwood in the Thirties by Sharon Gater 3pm -3.30pm Afternoon Tea at Wedgwood Visitors Centre (at students' own expense) 4pm-5pm Handling session and an opportunity to look at Wedgwood archive material 6.30pm Dinner 7.45pm Susie Cooper and Clarice Cliff by Andrew Casey Sunday 9am Breakfast 10am Smaller factories and their pots by Andrew Casey 11am Morning Coffee 11.30am Empire Pottery by Miranda Goodby 1pm Lunch and close of course Sessions are about 1 ½ hrs long. Fees: Single £137.00 Shared £120.00 Non resident £95.00 En-suite per room for weekend Single £10.00 Shared £16.00 The Wedgwood Memorial College is situated in the attractive village of Barlaston which is about seven miles south from the centre of Stoke-on-Trent.
